We're hoping to increase spending on youth in the area. Cllr Malcolm Cowan and Cllr Louise Lotz are meeting with community youth leaders, including Bertie Everard and Robin Webb, to get to grips with the problems of youth provision in the Peartree area. We hope to have some good news once all these meetings have taken place. We will keep you posted here.
Louise and Malcolm and Steve Roberts, the three Peartree Ward councillors have contributed some equipment for young people, out of their community chest fund for Peartree Ward. This included a pool table and an ice hockey table.
These have proved very popular. We also contributed a television set, and funded a few things for the Peartree fun day. Louise went along to the fun day.
There were some side-shows, including a coconut shy.
The climbing wall and some gazebos all came out of the community chest funds.
Louise had a look round the van provided by Youth Connexions, and had a good chat with Mandy who runs this van. There are lots of bits and pieces of information about all the things that concern young people.
Louise has also been going along to Moneyhole Lane. There is some great equipment there for young people and the park has proved to be a honeypot for youngsters on a Friday evening. The place is absolutely buzzing then.
Child UK ran some projects, in order to give young people something to do in the park.
They also ran a fab event for the community. This was a basketball match in which the community officers played against the young people. The community team included the PCSOs the streetewardens and someone from the anti-social behaviour team. It was a great event and brought the community closer.
Louise has joined a group of residents councillors and officers who are trying to work out what to provide for young people who visit the park.
