Recycling and saving the planet

September 2009

Cllr Louise Lotz and Cllr Malcolm Cowan have been involved in recycling in the area for a long time.  Outside the Woodhall shops you can now see the plastics recycling facilities alongside all the other recycling.  We worked hard for many years to get these agreed.

A project in Peartree, designed to encourage kerbside recycling has also been going for some time.  This was run by the council with help from environmental groups. Every little bit helps.

There is going to be more kerbside recycling from now on. This means from October we can recycle food waste and also card via the kerbside. Food waste goes straight into the brown bin that takes garden waste and this all goes to a composting facility. The council are providing free bins for kitchen waste and these can be collected from Campus East. For full details, visit the council's own website. Kitchen waste and card will be recycled via kerbside bins.
