Rileys / Breaks snooker club site

7/12/2009

I received a letter from Peterborough City Council dated 6 July, advising me that they had, finally, granted planning permission to demolish the snooker club building and derelict house on Eastfield Road, some 18 months after the first plans were published, and erect a four storey block containing 33 flats.

Whilst some residents have expressed concerns about the size of the building, most feel that creating a residential site here will alleviate alot of trouble currently emanating from the closed snooker club and boarded up house.  Recently the house has been broken into by youths and used for nefarious purposes.

Let's hope the applicants get on with the work.  The permission gives them three years to start work, but I will be pressing for a much earlier start, or for enforcement action on the untidy and deteriorating site if they dally.
