SCIPS in partnership with Wednesbury 2000 have now produced a community website for groups and individuals to access. It gives information of what's on in Sandwell and the six towns. Also information on local community groups, when they meet and how to join, how to set up your own group and, importantly, how to find funding to carry out your activities.
To find out more, give me a ring or just log on to CHAINS Community Website.
Most of the work on the Old Post Office has now been completed and funds are being raised to hold community events in the new facility.
The Official Launch will take place on Saturday, 16th July 2011 - 12.00p.m. till 4.00p.m. Refreshments will be provided. Everyone Welcome
A great day was had by all on Saturday 25th June when an assortment of music was played in the bandstand at Brunswick Park. Free balloons, face painting and bouncy castles were provided for the youngsters taking the stress from parents who have more than one child and find it difficult to afford a fun day out.
At last, a ramp has been provided for disabled users at the junction of Ridding Lane and Corporation Street. This new ramp allows pedestrians to see oncoming traffice in Corporation Street so that they can cross in safety.
Friends of Brunswick Park have organised a Music Festival in the park for Saturday 25th June. We have organised a Brass band from 1.30p.m. till 3.30p.m. and then assorted music and bands till 8.00p.m. There will be face painting, balloons and bouncy castles (all free) for youngsters while their parents enjoy the music.
Everyone welcome.
At last, after years of chasing the Council and funding, we now have the new fencing around the park. Unfortunately, the cemetery side will not be fenced off but we are waiting for the Friends of Wood Green Cemetery to order fencing which will then enclose the two sites.
Unfortunately, my web sit has been out of order for the past few months so I apologise for not being up to date on what;s happening.

The pavement at the junction of Ridding Lane and Corporation Street has now been lowered to provide access for wheelchair users and disability scooters. I am concerned, however, about cars turning into Corporation Street, and would ask for feedback on any problems encountered because of this. I am asking for a sign depicting the crossing as soon as possible.
The Friends of Brunswick Park have been striving for 8 years to get fencing erected around the park to stop the anti-social behaviour in the park at night. At last, with consultation with officers, our wish is finally to become a reality. Many times I have put bids in for funding but, at last jointly, with officers, we have found funding for the project at last. Final quotes are being sought from suppliers and work should be completed for next year. Also, promises have been made by these same officers that Brunswick Park will become a Green Flag Park within the next two years (at last our park will be a pleasure for all to use)
After 2 years of my negotiations with the Cricket Club, Residents and Council officers, a solution to the problem of cricket balls falling into gardens has finally been sorted. A further 3 metres have been added to the fencing and was completed last week.
After years of complaining that Wood Green Cemetery was an insult to the young soldiers who are buried there to the point of contacting the War Graves Commission, the cemetery is now been given a face lift by our Ground Care Department. Broken stones are to be tidied up, grass to cut and pathways to graves cleared out. Lets hope that once this has been completed that the cemetery will have ongoing maintenance to keep it presentable and give respect to our dead ancestors.
I instigated a petition for residents in council run flats and maisonettes against the £200 charge for installation of digital arials, which was unreasonable and definitely unaffordable to them. It appears that the council have now not to go ahead with these charges.
At last we will be having a 20mph speed limit outside St. Mary's Junior School, Manor House Road,Wednesbury. I have campaigned that it has been dangerous for children to cross this road because of speeding cars but, next month, the council are erecting speed signs stating that 20m.p.h. limit is now in force.
I have received many complaints about the unreliability of some local bus services. If you have any problems let me know as I am a member of the West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority and we need to ensure that you are getting a good service.
At last youngsters in Wednesbury have their new skate board, roller blade and BMX park. This was designed by the youngsters themselves and is proving a great success. It was officially opened by the Mayor yesterday an, even in adverse weather conditions, youngsters were still playing on it. Many thanks go to my fellow members of the Friends of Brunswick Park who have been fighting alongside myself to get this equipment for the past 6 years.
I was contacted by a distraught pensioner who was worried about a bill he had received. There...

It was announced on ITV News last night that we have been successful in our bid for £50,000 for community projects in Wednesbury & Tipton. Plans will now go ahead with the refurbishment of The Old Post Office, Holyhead Road to make it a community centre for all. As Secretary of Wednesbury 2000 may I thank everyone who supported us by voting on the night.
The young children of St. John's Primary School and Holyhead Road Primary School are to be congratulated on their excellent behaviour at Wednesbury Cenotaph on Wednesday 11th November. They were a credit to Wednesbury. It was wonderful to see tiny tots putting a wreath on the cenotaph and see that their teachers are instilling a sense of pride in their country.
Maybe next year the senior schools will get involved.
Many thanks to Father Kevan from St. James for organising the event.
Once again Inspector Najib carried out an Operation Sureity this week, which shows that he will not tolerate crime in Wednesbury. Although I did not attend the drug raids this time, I hear that they were very successful. I did, however, spend time with the Crime Prevention Van and the feedback from residents was very good.
Keep up the good work !!!
A bulb planting session was carried out in Brunswick Park Wednesday 4th October and I must congratulate the staff and Pupils that assisted the Friends of Brunswick Park to plant over £100 worth of bulbs. Their behaviour was exemplorary and were a credit to the school and their home town of Wednesbury. We all too often hear about anti=social behaviour but there are a majority of children who do not get the praise they deserve who are pleasant, courteous and well mannered.
May I say it was a pleasure to work with them and we look forward to seeing them again in March 2010 when their bulbs are in flower.
Thanks also go to O'Connells, West Bromwich Civic Pride and Keith Vaughan for supplying the bulbs.
After numerous complaints sent to Sandwell Council from your three Councillors and the Walkabout on the 13th October where it was pointed out to Council Officers, at last we have succeeded in getting the passageway cleaned up. I was informed on the Walkabout that the Council were looking into the possibility of adopting the passageway so that it could be included in the regular clean up of the area.
We will now be getting our Nature Play Area and Skate Board area in the park end October/ beginning November. Although it is a little late coming, the old saying "better late than never" applies.
Green Flag status is hoped to be acheived by 2012. which is welcome news.
Council have listened to Morrisons, not the 10,000 who signed our petition , the ordinary man in the street. Parking charges will not now come into force until January 2010 which gives us more time to lobby on the fact that we do not want car parking charges in Wednesbury.
