Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council, Blackwater Ward
Councillor Samuel J. (Sammy) Brush

The website of Councillor Samuel J. Brush

Welcome to my personal councillor website.  I am the Democratic Unionist Party elected member for the electoral area known as Blackwater - part of Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council.  This area contains the wards of Aughnacloy, Caledon, Benburb, Moy and Killyman.  I serve on a number of committees and sub-committees in the council as well as the following outside bodies:- Association of Councillors (NI) Region, Tullyvar Landfill Joint Committee, the Territorial Auxiliary & Volunteer Reserve Association, Peace 3 Monitoring Committee and Peace 3 & Rural Development Cluster Joint Committee. I have been elected Deputy Mayor for the year beginning 8th June 2009.

I was first elected to Dungannon District Council in May 1981 to represent the Clogher Valley electoral area and served three terms until 1993 when I didn't seek re-election.  I was elected again in May 2005 to represent the Blackwater electoral area although I still live within the Clogher Valley area.  This means that I often receive requests for assistance with problems in both areas.

A short time after I was elected in 1981 I was shot and seriously injured in a PIRA ambush whilst working as a Postman so I have a particular interest in the treatment of victims and survivors of the terrorist campaign.

I will be using this site to keep you informed about my work, and to provide you with information about developments at Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council.

This website has been provided to help me in my work as a councillor – to help me communicate with all residents of Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council, regardless of their political persuasion. It has been provided to help improve the quality of communication between councillors and the people that they represent. As this website has been established with funding from the e-Government Fund programme, it is not appropriate for me to use it for the purposes of political campaigning.

However, there is a ‘My Politics’ link in the toolbar on the left-hand side of this website, and I may use that to link to political sites that I think are of interest.

I hope that you will feel free to use the ‘Contact Me’ button in the toolbar on the left of this site to let me know your views on any important upcoming business that the council is involved in. I’d also be interested to hear how you’d like me to use this website – and other internet tools to improve the way that important local issues are communicated to you.

With best wishes

Councillor Sammy Brush .
