Welcome to my personal councillor website. I am Councillor Brenda Stevenson, the SDLP elected member for the electoral ward of Rural - part of Derry City Council.”

I will be using this site to keep you informed about my work, and to provide you with information about developments within the Derry City Council area.

I am a married mother of two young sons and I work full time as a Technical Instructor for Speech and Language Therapy for the WHSCT working maily in the field of childhood disability. I want to use this website as a tool for keeping you up to date with what I am doing both at a local and regional level to raise all the issues brought to my attention and keep the public informed of Policies and Strategies that the SDLP are implementing to affect change for all citizens both  throughout the North of Ireland. This site also allows me to keep you abreast of all the changes that are happening as we move towards RPA and a more peaceful and shared society. The SDLP have always been the party of Civil Rights and Civil Justice and will continue to keep this high on their agenda.

Some of the  very pressing issues that I have been working on locally are Policing and the closure of Rural police stations, the rural Post Office closure has also been of concern to the party and we are working hard to ensure that the impact of this makes sure that those most in need are not marginalised even further by the outcome of the consultation. Other local grass roots issues I am involved with are the development of Claudy Country Park and the new Play Park there and the more recent announcement of funding for the new 3g pitch for the village and surrounding areas is much welcomed. Also the development of the new Play Park in Eglinton is another very fantastic initiative that I have been delighted to see coming to another Rural Derry village. Being a mother play is very high on my agenda and living in a rural area, where in the past there has been little or no investement it is great to see the community groups being so successful in putting children high up on their agenda. The financial support from Derry City Council in partnership with the local community and other funders has ensured that the Rural area and it's  dwellers are kept well on  the map !!!

As well as this site being my way to keep in touch with you please feel free to use it as a way of keeping me up to date with all the issues that affect you and your family. I look forward to hearing from you

With best wishes

Councillor Brenda Stevenson
